How y’all doin’?
It’s been a little bit.
This thing happens every year.
I vanish….
….for a month.…
….particularly in January.
I tend to just hide inside and not do anything.
It’s all cold outside!
Nasty and gross.
I don’t want to be out there.
The downside is that I can’t really shoot a lot of photos here at the house.
I’ve already shot so many photos here.
There are not that many places where I haven’t been.
So, I end up just not shooting anything.
I just vanish into the wind.
But then I realized…
I haven’t shot a photo involving snow in a while.
When you get pneumonia three times, it makes you want to avoid anything cold.
But I pushed through that and decided to make a photo with the snow!
We have quite a lot.
It wasn’t all at once, it just kept piling up and up over time.
It’s too cold for it to melt away, so it just stays.
Before we get to the photo, here’s a recap of events…
The Yellow Project was fun!
That turned out really nice.
I got my tax stuff in the mail and saw how much I made last year.
That’ll help me figure out if I can afford to finally get out of this house.
It’s looking like I can.
Just need to find the right place to go.
That’s just about it.
There isn’t really much to talk about because I didn’t do much.
As I said, I do nothing in the winter.
It’s just BLEH!
ONTO THE PHOTO!
As you can see…
THERE’S SNOW.
I guess I could have dug a hole all the way to the bottom of the snow.
Then you could see how deep it is.
But no, I was mostly going for cool lighting in this one.
It was pretty simple.
I had a bright flashlight next to me that was down low.
That way it’ll get the texture of the snow.
Lastly, all I had to do is lay in the snow.
SIMPLE
When I was down there, I saw there was a harsh shadow next to me.
That was to be expected.
So I thought, maybe I should mirror the photo.
That way the shadow will be gone and you see nothing but snow.
So, I tried it.
I cut the photo in half, made a copy of the layer, and flipped that new layer.
AND BOOM!
It came together right there.
It looked normal… but not normal at the same time.
It was gorgeous.
After that, I worked on the final adjustments.
I wanted black and white, high contrast.
I wanted that snow texture to really stand out.
After that… it was complete!

That’s when I mirrored it.
And below are the final adjustments that I did.

I love it.
It looks normal, until you look closer.

ONTO THE VIDEO!
The video is pretty random.
I had this folder on the computer called “Videos that need a home”
They were just random videos that I didn’t include in other projects.
So I thought… why don’t I just put them into their own random video.
So I did.
Halfway through doing that, I think of this photo idea and I shoot it.

And that’s all.
At the end of the video, I mention… the photo contest.
It’s still happening this year, but it’s online.
I haven’t entered the contest in a while, so I was thinking…..
It’s online… so I don’t have to print anything….
And they mention in the post that “All photographers are welcome”.
The reason why I stopped is because the brochure said it was an “ amateur contest”.
So we thought I was too high and mighty for it when I got my job.
But I guess they changed what it said.
I thought, then I looked through what I have.
Photos that I’ve uploaded and photos that I haven’t uploaded.
I found some good ones, and I submitted them.
No harm in trying.
I’m not expecting to win anything.
I just wanted to see what would happen.
If I win something, ok.
If I don’t get anything, ok.
I didn’t try that hard.
Now if I did try hard by going out and shoot some amazing photos, just to not win anything… that would hurt.
But because this is just an “Eh, let’s see” kind of thing, I don’t mind what happens.
I was going to include the results in this post, but the judging isn’t until the 26th.
That means the showing is on the 27th, all online still.
I didn’t want to wait to put this photo out there.
So I uploaded this now and expect another post after the 27th.
