HI!
This post was supposed to be typed up a few days ago.
I would go about the day thinking, “I need to type the blog post.”
Then I’d get distracted and it ends up being 11pm and I didn’t type the blog post!
Anyways..
Last post, I mentioned the photo contest.
I decided to enter it again.
The results have been posted and….
I HAVE BEEN REMINDED WHY I STOPPED DOING IT!
Here’s a little section of a long Facebook post I made…
Here are some links to some photos that I feel like should have won something. Every time I do this contest, I’m baffled by the photos they pick to win. There were some way better photos that should have gotten something.
LOOK AT THIS OWL SHOT. Absolutely stunning. It wins nothing. I’m mad.
Here are some flowers that look way better than the photo they picked for first place.
Look at the composition of this one. It’s balanced, using the rule of thirds, and HAS A MOUNTAIN IN THE BACKGROUND.
I’ve been doing a lot of cloud photos recently, so I naturally gravitated towards this one. The only flaw with this one is the tree in the side of the photo. It should have been cut out. Just move a few feet to the left and it would have been gone.
Lastly, here are some nice black and white photos from the youth categories. I beat these? Why? Some of these are way better BW photos than mine.
That’s all I got. I’m surprised I won something again. There are far better photos that should have won. I’m going back to bed. I did shoot an… interesting… photo last night. I’ll post it at some point.
I could have gone on and on.
I’m still baffled by the photos they picked to win.
There’s were WAY BETTER PHOTOS.
All those links go to other people’s photos.
Not mine.
I did cut out the part where I talk about me winning.
I did win an award.
I GOT BEST BLACK AND WHITE AGAIN!
But as you can see at the end of that post above, I link to 3 B/W photos that were better.
Even I wasn’t happy about winning.
There is one other award that hasn’t been given out.
People can go onto the showcase site and vote for their favorite.
There’s a hard icon that you can hit, that counts as a vote.
Right now, one of my photos is in the lead.
So I might get that as well.
WHICH IS THE SAME AWARDS I GOT LAST I ENTERED THE CONTEST.
Amazing isn’t it.
Anyways, that’s really the only big thing that happened recently.
Onto the photo!
ONTO THE PHOTO!
This week’s photo is unusual.
SEE!
It’s all weird.. and red….and weird!
I just love the combination of red and black.
I recently got a new shirt that had big red and black stripes.
I HAD TO DO IT!
That’s really it.
There’s no fancy story behind this one.
I just wanted to make a photo with a cool aesthetic.
It was a bit tricky though.
The photo has FOUR LAYERS to it.
Each with their own effects.
Let’s compare…
First I took out the background and cropped it…
Then I slapped on an adjustment called threshold.
Which turns everything to be white or black.
There’s a slider that you can adjust to change what turns white and what turns black.
My shirt, my head, and my hair have their own threshold adjustment.
Three different layers.
After that, I slapped on a gradient map that turned the white into red.
Then, I took a break for a day.
I always do this.
I work on a photo or a video, then I step away.
I clear my mind and come back.
When I came back, I noticed there was a bit too much red.
I know that’s the “style” of this photo, but I can tone it back.
Mostly in my neck away
It just one blob of red.
So I turned the threshold down a bit…
But now my face is a bit too dark.
So added yet another layer of just my face, and brought the threshold back up.
Now compare all the changes!
AMAZING!
I JUST LOVE THE AESTHETIC!!
It’s stylish.
It stands out from the other photos.
ONTO THE VIDEO!
It’s an interesting one.
It covers everything about the contest AND MORE!
The breaks go out on my car blah blah fun stuff!
I bought something…
SOMETHING INTERESTING.
I might use it to shoot the next photo!
You’ll see it in the video...
That’s it!
Come back in a week or two.
I’ll have the results of the people’s vote for the contest.
Also, the 15th is the 12th year anniversary of starting the YouTube Channel, the original blog, and the original website.
So I’ll talk about that as well.
SEE YOU THEN!
