Alright. After a long day of seeing what works, I think I’ve gotten things nailed down.
The homepage is updated with two other feeds. Before it was just a list of updates when I did something new. So I was hesitant to add any other social media feeds because they’ll say the same thing. I use Hootsuite to post to Facebook at Twitter whenever there is something new and then I’d make a post on the website about whatever it new. It’ll just be a mess of the same thing. However, now that I added the feeds... I’m liking. Yes they are showing the same things, but it’s not as annoying as I thought. Plus, it’s nice to have a back up in case I forget to post on the website whenever something is new.
I’m moved over the most recent blog post from the blog in order to test and experiment. I’m happy to say that things are looking great! There’s one issue. On my blog, I have this slider comparison. It allows you to see the before and after versions of a photo side by side in a way so you can better see the changes that I did to the photo. I knew Wix was going to have a fit about it’s complicated code and that turned out to be true. It wouldn't work. I also have a tap-based comparison that when you tap on the photo it switches between the two versions of the photo. That worked perfectly when I transferred it over. Its code is super simple and it didn’t freak out Wix.
So I was at a dilemma, do I try to get the slider to work or should I just move on. I ended up trying to get it to work. I looked at many different versions of the same slider and tested which ones worked and which ones didn’t. Eventually, I found one that worked. Using that as a base, I rebuilt my own slider. I put it into work, and it worked........ on a desktop. I found out I missed some code for mobile devices, so I put that in and it worked. I was able to slider the sliders on my phone..... outside of Wix. If I put the code back into Wix, I still couldn’t slide it on my phone. So once again, Wix was starting to have a fit. Then after that, the slide stopped working on desktop as well. It was turning into a big mess. So I decided to just kill it. The slider never worked on mobile anyways even on my old blog and it’s always been a pain. It loads some times, then it doesn’t. It’s just time to move on and shut it down. I’ll probably keep trying to get it to work, but I’m not going to worry about it.
Lastly, there was the Image Zoomer. Yes, very original names. It allowed you to zoom into a photo and see more details. That also has many issues. So I didn’t even try to move that over. I’m fine without it. All these things just make it all worse. I don’t want to over complicate it all.
After all that testing and messing around, it’s done. I think it’s time to move the blog over to this site. I’m not moving every post. I’m just going to start posting on here from now on. There’s a link to the old blog underneath the link to the new blog in the site menu.
That’s all I feel like doing today. I’m still going back and forth between my old sites and this new one comparing things and seeing what else I can add. My work isn’t done yet.
